چکیده

Over the last decade, we and colleagues have done considerable theoretical and applied work involving multiresolution modeling and exploratory analysis,1 in part to connect the worlds of strategic planning (e.g., development of the defense guidance and defense programs) 2 with the world of more detailed analysis (e.g., development of military forces, weapon systems, and doctrine).3 We have also found multiresolution work essential in attempting to model adversaries in studies of deterrence and compellence.4 Our work has not been about model validation per se, but many implications for model validation have emerged as byproducts. Our objective in this paper is to discuss some of those implications. In doing so, we draw heavily on examples from our past work.

Exploratory Analysis and Implications for Modeling

ions, usually aggregations, are fundamental in exploratory analysis. Finding suitable abstractions, relating them, and conducting both high-level exploratory analysis and appropriate zooming into detail are greatly facilitated if models are designed in a special way. This is the subject of multiresolution, multiperspective modeling (MRMPM). Although the subject relates most directly to new mode...

Validation of the Psychometric Properties of the Persian Version of Child Abuse Questionnaire

Background: Children belong to the most vulnerable social group. Thus, children’s issues address a substantial part of the security in each community. It was necessary to develop an instrument to screen the children at risk of child abuse. Methods: This survey was conducted on 200 elementary students of the Ahwaz City, Iran, using a self-report questionnaire. A multi-stage sampling method was ...

Development and Validation of Teacher Emotional Support Scale: a structural equation modeling approach

Reviewing the literature indicated that no validated model was found that examine the extent to which teachers support their students emotionally in EFL classrooms. Therefore the present study elaborated on this issue through developing and validating a teacher emotional support scale in an Iranian English foreign language context. Main components of the scale have been specified based on Hamre...

Choosing Models of Appropriate Resolutions for Simulation: A MRM Approach

Multi-resolution modeling (MRM) is widely used in manufacture industry, environment science (climate, geometry, map), science (material, biology) and so on. Dozens of theories and methods are proposed to MRM. However, most of these MRMs are not designed for simulation, which leads to MRM failures in terms of information loss, consistency maintenance and resolution changes. To solve these failur...

Validation of a Preliminary Model of Cultural Identity for Iranian Advanced EFL Learners: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach

This study was an endeavor to develop a model of cultural identity among Iranian advanced EFL learners. To achieve this end, a multiphase design was implemented. Initially, it was attempted to investigate different factors of cultural identity to propose and validate a model. Thus, 20 EFL learners studying in Safir English language institute in Tehran were interviewed about their views of their...
